London Lines - work in progress by Carnegriff
London Lines - work in progress
I really wanted to share this image of a work in progress, it captures for me the excitement of working with inks and liquids in the studio, the uncertainty of where the medium will go, the accidents and spills dictating the direction of the piece of work and the tragedy of not being able to freeze time and cature the beauty of the liquids in this state.  Normally I am the only one to see all the transient states of the work but I wanted to share this image so that you can see the types of transition the work goes through en route to being finished.  I hope you enjoy this snapshot - I will be posting a picture of the finished piece nearer the time.  You can see more of my work and buy lots of lovely things from postcards to prints and originals from my website - thank you for following my work.

Spring Has Come by Carnegriff
Spring Has Come
The coming of spring represented by the young girl in the portrait, comes with an abundance of energy and colour. She is full of life vigour and optimism, entwined with floral decoration, she brings in a new season of growth and abundance.

Here's a preview of a new piece that will be showing in London at the end of the month as part of the exhibition Consume at Leontia Gallery

The piece is traditional, drawn in pigment pens (Derwent's Line Painter pens to be precise) drawn freehand onto black somerset paper.
The piece is then scanned and contrast altered slightly in photoshop.

Would love to hear your thoughts and welcome feedback - I've included a nice hi res file so you can see the detail if you download

Thank you

Nightflight by Carnegriff
Created on somerset black paper using line painter pigment pens from Derwent, this piece measures 50 x 70 cm

The work is built using layers of pigment pen - drawing freely and encorporating floral shapes and also fragmented geometric patterns - the idea was to create a more futuristic feel to the work changing the palette to primary and neon colours, the piece was also inspired by an image of a view from a plane window coming in to land over London!

Hope you like it

Long time no Journal Entry...

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 5, 2013, 6:31 AM

Thought it was about time I said 'Hi' in the Journal and stopped being so antisocial.... seems like I have less and less time nowadays and so this seems the best way to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has been following my work both here and elsewhere.  It has been a very busy year for both artwork and homelife and I am getting used to juggling the two and dividing my time up better - there is less time however for sharing commenting and replying to people here but I WILL, I always do!
I'm also very pleased to be opening a 2 man exhibition in London tomorrow night - the 6th September where I will be showing some artwork I have shared here on DA and some new works.... there will be new prints and postcard packs available and the work includes the fantastic paintings of Rowan Newton as well as myself and even includes a digitally assembled giclee print especially for the gallery (I know.... me and photoshop.... who'd have thought it)

So if you can ... please make a little trip to see the work at the Ben Oakley Gallery - it is situated inside greenwich market, South London, it's a lovely space and I know you'll get a great welcome there.

Big love to all
