Ink Graphite and Brandy on 535gsm Bockingford Cold Pressed watercolour paper from St Cuthberts Mill This is a new piece from a series of work looking at floral pattern and our detachment from nature... the barriers between us and the natural world. It features a mixture of floral pattern and broken glass alluding to breaking through a barrier that we put ourselves behind. Nature as our comforter and floral imagery as our substitution.
The detail on the face really let's us viewers focus on that but the rest of the piece feels kinda flat right now. The leaves feel the same throughout so maybe you could make more variation in size or angles or even color. It also seems as though the face is behind the leaves, like a layer. The composition is also kinda boring. .But until you have more going on like with the rest of your pieces, it's too soon to tell. Other than that the face is working wonderfully. I love the angle and the direct light source. The dripping and the leaves provide a form of contrast with the face but it's definitely not enough. Perhaps using shadows to contour the subject could be the pull-push relationship it might need. I hope this helps.
