Description

Fountain pen ink direct onto 638gsm Saunders Waterford paper, 40" x 60"

This is the first in a series of work charting the story of persephone and her trappings in the underworld - it seemed a good opportunity to get back to basics and involve a narrative thread in a series of work - whilst enjoying the freedom of simple drawing.

I know it seems rather over indulgent to give 5 stars across the rubric, but I just cannot deny that I absolutely love this rendering of Persephone. Not only did you depict her beautifully with sophisticated detail, but the idea of nature incorporated to form her features is not only decently original, but is successfully done. It also represents her life in myth, in reference to her life before being kidnapped by Hades, which was bountiful and did indeed highly involve nature considering her mother Demeter was labeled the goddess of the Harvest and she herself that of vegetation. I also love how you used two different colors for either side of the face, for me personally it reminds me of the duality of her nature, that being the Queen of the Underworld and that being the daughter of Demeter and a representation of nature. All in all I just absolutely love this piece!
