"The Violence Of Flowers..." This title captured my attention right away...... one does not usually think of "violence" in association with "flowers," which one might think of as, "sweet, bursting with color, aromatic, delicate..." But then again, there is the rose- its thorns protective of it voracious beauty... or, other flowery lovelies which transmit poison... Such an intriguing metaphor, with many imaginative implications and outcomes! (and of course, your artwork, of itself, completely mesmerizing...) Colleen
Thanks colleen - I have found myself working with nature a lot recently - particularly flowers - apart from being pretty and delicate - they produce in me an intense emotional reaction. Plants are also cunning, protective, devious, nature has many ways of tricking and plants survice through many means - draining life from other forms ripping through concrete - plunging their roots into solid ground - they are resilient and have a slow unassuming force... I decided upon this title for a series of work containing flowers that unlike much of my previous work would hilight the aspects of plants that are often overlooked and to also focus on the effect they have on me whilst studying them. I have been keeping most of the series to myself but will be revealing the work pretty soon - thanks for your comments - it's nice that you took the time to consider the title.
