Violet by Carnegriff Violet by Carnegriff
simple portrait - small works - playing around with new tonal ranges and more graphite... still on board and liked the marks around on the gumstrip

Hey Carnegriff, I'm a bit new here and seeing if this DeviantArt thing is a worthwhile so I don't have a premium membership in which to give a critique (found a request in my Messages... don't know if it was random or not). Is "Violet" shown above how you're going to display it?

The light box pieces you have are a really sharp idea. Have you had much luck moving them (sales)?

I sell the lightboxes through a number of galleries - south coast Brighton etc and London, I have 'moved' about 15 lightboxes but they are all originals and slightly different designs - most successfully is the moth lightbox design. DA is great for feedback on work but I don't sell through here or use their print service as I have my prints published by a company called Harwood King. Like most things DA will give back what you put into it - The piece Violet is still on the board - I will probably mount it with the gumstrip - it looks nice currently as there is a spill which stretches across a white piece of paper adjacent to the one shown - but I cant take it off in 1 piece which is a shame!

good luck with DA - liek the pieces you have up

Beautiful tones. The lines seem stronger than your previous works.

I think it is because it is so much smaller - maybe a sixth of the normal pieces - so the line scales down with the larger work.

What is your favorite part of the whole process of making a piece?
Reply
:iconcarnegriff:
Carnegriff Featured By Owner May 29, 2011  Professional Traditional Artist
abandonment - and escapism (i dissappear into my own world completely - sometimes when I look over a piece after finishing I wonder where the marks come from) This is why despite people asking, I would necer want to record the process - it would break that spell

I can understand that. Periods of intense focus that lead to mental retreat-
;) It's also rather mysterious of you, that's probably why people keep asking. The lure and curiosity of something beyond their reach.

It's the one thing I'll never do ... tutorials or videos.. because I can't!

One thing I may consider is a stop frame animation of a similar type piece because the process interests me!

Cheers for your comments - always pertinent
